The perfect tool to ensure your coins reach your heirs
Guided process
Our guided setup process makes sure that you set up a highly reliable Bitcoin inheritance plan in order to ensure that your heirs will have all the information they need to restore access to your funds after your death.
Made for self-custody
We believe in the importance of self-custody when it comes to securing Bitcoin. However, self-custody also comes with challenges such as ensuring that your heirs will be able to access your coins after your death. That's where Satskeeper can help.
Of course, you can also use Satskeeper to document your custodial accounts to ensure your heirs will be able to access those as well.
We care about your data
Your inheritance plan is encrypted locally before being uploaded to Satskeeper meaning our team can’t access the information contained, even if we wanted. We only work with the contact details you provide during account creation and even that information is removed from the Satskeeper webapp after 30 days and stored offline. This offline copy will only be accessed when required for a proof-of-life check.
Assistance for your heirs
Your heirs might not know as much about Bitcoin as you do and therefore might make mistakes that could lead to loss of coins. Our experts are there to help your heirs in case they need assistance when restoring access to your funds.
Increased privacy
With Satskeeper you can set up a secure and private Bitcoin inheritance plan without having to reveal your secrets to your heirs while you are still around. Moreover, some of your heirs might be too young to take on the burden of protecting your valuable secrets.
What is the most common Bitcoin inheritance plan?
To hope you don't die anytime soon!
But only two things are certain in life: 21 million Bitcoin and death...
How does it work?
Create an account with Satskeeper
Start by creating your account and specify your contact details which we will use to perform the proof-of-life checks. It is up to you how much information you provide us.
Create your Bitcoin inheritance plan
- Guided process to make sure nothing is forgotten
- Document how your heirs will access your funds
- Done offline & encrypted before upload
- Quick and easy; setup takes just 15 minutes
If preferred, you can also write down your inheritance plan on paper using our PDF template.
Import encrypted inheritance plan into your account
Once you have documented your setup and encrypted your inheritance plan using our inheritance plan configurator, upload it to your account. At this point you also provide each heir with their access document (generated by the inheritance plan configurator). This file contains the password they need in order to decrypt your inheritance plan.
Configure proof-of-life reminders
- We regularly contact you to verify you're still alive
- Email, SMS, phone and even police report (if desired)
- You specify the interval (monthly, quarterly, yearly)
Lean back
Well done, you've done the important part! From now on we will regularly perform a proof of life check and reach out to your heirs to keep their contact details up to date. For you it's time to get back to living your life, knowing that if something happens to you, Satskeeper will be there to assist your heirs.

Protecting your data is of utmost importance to us. We therefore try to minimise the data we have access to as much as possible. There are two interfaces where personal information is required: the Satskeeper platform itself and the inheritance plan configurator.
-
Data entered on the platform: Apart from specific fields, which are visually highlighted, this data is removed from the Satskeeper database after 30 days and is only stored in encrypted offline copies in multiple locations to ensure redundancy. This copy will only be accessed when required for a proof-of-life check.
-
Data entered on the inheritance plan configurator: Apart from specific fields which are visually highlighted, this data is encrypted before being saved to your Satskeeper account and therefore is only accessible by you (and your heirs after your death) with the inheritance plan access password.
When setting up your inheritance plan, it is encrypted locally before being saved to your Satskeeper account. This ensures that the Satskeeper cannot access information contained in your encrypted inheritance plan. While you are still alive, your heirs only receive the access document which you created as part of the setup process. The access document contains the decryption password which is required in order to decrypt your inheritance plan. Once you have passed away, we will contact your heirs and provide them with the encrypted inheritance plan. Your heirs can then decrypt the inheritance plan and use the information to restore access to your coins.
Satskeeper is designed in order to ensure that your heirs will have the necessary information in order to restore your coins after your death:
-
Protection against heirs: In order to protect against a heir potentially trying to access your coins before your death, we only provide your inheritance plan once you have died.
-
Protection against Satskeeper team: In order to ensure that the Satskeeper team cannot access your coins, your inheritance plan is encrypted before being saved to your account to ensure that the Satskeeper team cannot access the contained information. Additionally, we inform you during the setup that you should not include any passwords, private keys, seed words or similar access material in your inheritance plan.
-
Collusion between Satskeeper and heirs: The only weak point in this threat model is that theoretically Satskeeper could collude with your heirs and provide your inheritance plan prematurely. We protect against this by having internal controls to ensure that the due process is followed. Additionally, there is a strong market incentive to not collude with your heirs as doing so would destroy our reputation and our business.
We try to minimise the data we have access to as much as possible. Only the contact information we need in order to contact you, your safety contact and your heirs is accessible to us. We do not have access to the information contained in your inheritance plan because it is encrypted with a locally generated (or user chosen) password before being saved to your Satskeeper account. Only you and your heirs (after your death) can access the information contained within your inheritance plan. Satskeeper does not at any time hold the inheritance plan access password which is required in order to decrypt your inheritance plan.
